Abstract: Calcification is one of the most important indicators for early breast cancer detection. Breast calcifications can be found in both benign and malignant lesions, and they can be the first and earliest sign of malignancy. Currently, X-ray mammography and ultrasound imaging are routine diagnostic tools for breast calcification detection. I will share with you the limitation and pitfall of the current ultrasound and mammography system. The status of new image modalities such as photoacoustic and FTIR spectroscopy for the microcalcifications detection are addressed, too.
