劉吶鷗（1905-1940）者，柳營劉燦波也。人如其名的這位南台鄉親既是二十世紀上半葉東亞文化圈的一位指標人物，更可視為當時台灣重要的人才輸出，他所推動中國現代主義的新感覺派和軟性電影，只是較為人知的兩例，其他意義的掘發，應是與日俱增。自2001新世紀起，主辦單位—國立中央大學中文系，便開始以「重讀」的觀點締寫以劉吶鷗為名的學術史頁，如彙編全集五冊六種（2001）、舉行會議（2005），出版論文集（2005）……十年來的迴響不斷，包括：對「一讀」時期文學史的反思，重估劉氏的歷史地位與評價，帶動了有關劉氏的研究與教學，並使之多樣性與國際化，甚而所謂「劉學」專題社群的逐漸形成，凡此種種，相當程度讓各方對主辦單位的後續之舉多所期待。
2010年夏，主辦單位新編的《劉吶鷗全集：增補集》由臺南縣政府、國立臺灣文學館付梓發行，新材料出土，加上自2005國際研討會／論文集完成後的五年期間，學界同道同好的持續努力與日積月累，「三讀」時機成熟了，於是而有了2011年10月9、10日「璀燦波光—2011劉吶鷗國際研討會」的催生。
Liu Naou (1905-1940) is a target figure of the East Asian cultural circle in the first half of the twentieth century and can be regarded as a major talent of Taiwan . The better known two cases of Liu’s contribution are the promotions of Chinese modernist novels and films, his other influences are also revealing as time goes by. .Since the twenty-first century, National Central University, as the organizer, has written the academic history of Liu Naou, with the point of view of “rereading” by completing compilation, holding conference, publishing proceedings, and so forth. Echoes, including reflections on the period of the "first reading" literary history and revaluations of the historical status and evaluation of Liu, were aroused and lasted for a decade; which not only promoted the studies and teaching of Liu but made it diverse and international, and even formed the research communities of Liu. For the above reasons, follow-up move by NCU is highly anticipated.
Five years after the 2005 conference and proceeding, "The Complete Works of Liu Naou: Supplementary Set" by NCU was published by Tainan County Government and the National Museum of Taiwanese Literature in summer 2010. With new materials and great anticipation, it is time for the “third reading”, and there comes “Illuminations at 2011 International Conference on Liu Na-ou” on Oct. 9 to 10, 2011.
